Memorial Day

The day for recognition and the day of remembrance. We honor our past veterans with parades and cookouts. Sometimes we forget the sacrifices that they made and see it as a day for relaxing and taking a break. We forget that the reason we have that day is because men and women from the Revolutionary War to our fight against ISIS. Memorial day is the last monday in the month. This is a federal holiday That originated during the Civil War and started as Decoration day in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois, established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the Union war dead with flowers. By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. Thank you to the veterans that gave their lives for our freedom, though you may not read this, we will still remember you and your Sacrifice.  I hope everyone can remember those who died for our freedom, not just on this day, but every day.

Freedom is not Free

Memories about the love you had for you country

Every second you worked in love for your people

Minus  fact that death was a constant threat

Open to stand tall for our Country

Righteously fighting our battles

Indescribable love we have for you

Awestruck wonder of why for me

Living have our freedom today

God bless our native land

             By Frances E.W Harper

God Bless our native land

Land of the newly free

Oh may she ever stand

For truth and liberty

God bless our native land

Where sleep our kindred dead

Let peace at thy command

Above their graves he shed

God help our native land

Bring her surcease to her strife

And a shower from thy hand

A more abundant life

God bless our native land

Her Homes and children bless,

Oh may she ever stand

For truth and righteousness

Freedom’s memorial

                       By Del “abe” Jones

This day is set aside to honor those

Who took the chance to die

But they died in vain, if we ever forget the reason why

Freedom can be like time

Slipping away before we even know.

But we all have the choice

more , a duty to battle the freedom’s’ foe.

Let us give thanks this day

To all those brave

Who paid the highest cost

Not take it for granted

And realize it easily could be lost
