When most people hear of thanksgiving, they think of a turkey. When most football fans hear of thanksgiving, the almost instantly think of watching the thanksgiving day games with friends and family. Thanksgiving football has been a tradition since the 19th century. President Abraham Lincoln first declared thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863, the earliest thanksgiving Day football games began just a few years later. With the turn of the century, professional football leagues immediately adopted the thanksgiving day tradition. When the NFL was founded in 1920, it began hosting games on thanksgiving day each year. As you can see it has been a tradition for a long time. Families love to watch the biggest rivals play each other on thanksgiving.
