Anonymous Advocate: Troubling Times

Q: How to comfort your friend when they lose someone?

A: The BEST thing you could possibly do for them is to just be there for them. Since most people would rather not have anyone around them when they’re going through a hard time, it’s best to just let them know that you’re there for them, whenever they need someone to talk to. And for those people who do seek physical comfort, try to be there for them as much as you can be. You don’t necessarily have to understand what they’re going through, and chances are that you really don’t know what they’re going through since each person’s struggles are different, but just listen to them and be there to support them.

Q: I’ve been looking in the bible to find some comfort because I’ve had a lot of stress and sadness in my life lately. What stories from the bible can you recommend that can help me see God in tough times?

A: I am going to assume that you wanted stories about people who were going through (possibly) similar situations as the one that you’re in, so that’s what I shall suggest.

  • Mark 5:21-43

This story was focused on Jesus raising the centurion’s daughter from the dead.

  • John 11

This one is a pretty well-known story about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.

  • Job

The whole book. All of it. It’s centered around Job and all the struggles that he went through, but how he still managed to believe in God despite all that.
