Tragic Accident Takes Walla Walla Student’s Life
On February 10, 2015, Walla Walla student Madison (Maddy) Baird was hit by a motor vehicle while riding her bike. The brightness of the setting sun blinded the driver’s vision who claims he didn’t even see Maddy Baird until his truck hit her.
The twenty-year-old Spanish major was airlifted to Seattle, Washington to receive medical attention at Harborview Medical Center. Meanwhile, her story began to spread rapidly through social media, cropping up supporters all over the Adventist community.
Maddy Baird passed away on Wednesday night surrounded by close friends and family. John McVay, Walla Walla University’s president posted an official death statement at 9:00 P.M. saying, “We are saddened to inform you that Walla Walla University lost a treasured member of our campus family this evening with the death of Madison Baird… Maddy was a bright light on our campus and in our community, and our hearts are broken.”
The rest of the Adventist community all over the country echoes his sentiment. Please continue to keep Maddy’s family in your prayers as they now enter their grieving process.
