SLA’s First Chapel of the Year

Courtesy of Edyn-Mae StevensonOn August 26, South Lancaster Academy had their first chapel of the year. It was the first chapel the freshman have ever been to. The chapel had brand new posters and decorations and it looked great. The posters were mainly Bible verses and encouraging messages. The worship theme for this year is “Connecting the Dots.” Connecting the dots is all about putting the puzzle pieces together in your relationship with God, and finding out what life is about and how it all makes sense.

Chapel started off with an activity. Everyone got a colorful piece of paper, and we were directed to write a goal we had for the year on one side and our name of the other side. At the end of the year, we are going to get those back and see whether or not we reached our goals. Afterwards, praise team led out with a great song service. We sang “Mighty to Save” and “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever” which are both familiar songs. The praise team also introduced “One Thing Remains” which was a new song for many of the students. The singers on the praise team reminded all of the students why we are in chapel and how important it is to praise God for who He is and everything He has done.

SA pastor Amber Sanchez was the speaker for the first chapel. She spoke about her life, and how she has had many problems with her friendships in the past. She told us about how she had gone through life feeling empty and sometimes sad. Amber pointed out that trying to fill a void in your life with people or things never works out, because the only one who can complete your life and “connect the dots” is God. It was a hopeful message because she told us about how the bad experiences in her life ended up being good for her in the end because God had a plan all along.

It was definitely a great start to the school year and a good way to introduce chapel to the freshman. God has blessed SLA with an opportunity to worship and spend time in prayer. It’s also a blessing that SLA has students who are involved in the spiritual life of the school and talented singers, musicians, and class pastors who set a good example and lead people to Jesus. Hopefully this year will continue to be a time of spiritual growth for everyone and we will learn more about our theme, “Connecting the Dots,” and most importantly learn more about the love of Jesus.
