Youtube to Aquire Twitch
Google, owners of the popular video site YouTube, might buy competitor Twitch for $1 billion. Twitch is a live streaming service targeted for gamers, and this service is offered for free for every platform, inlcuding Xbox, Playstation and computer gaming. YouTube tried to compete with Twitch by adding their own live streaming add-on to their website, but they will never get the live views that Twitch gets. A source reported earlier on in the week that Google already bought Twitch; that is most likely not true. Google is talking to Twitch and they are trying to make a deal with them.
Twitch being bought by Google will be the worst possible thing for this live streaming service unless Google thinks about the viewers of Twitch. My personal thoughts on why Google might buy Twitch would be to trash the website and direct all of their traffic to YouTube’s live streaming services. This will get a big wave of people to come to YouTube, unless another live streaming service comes along. But again this is my personal thought on what Google might be trying to do.
YouTube wants to own a monopoly for videos and live streaming on the internet. There is still a chance of YouTube keeping the Twitch website and name, but what most likely will happen is YouTube integrating Twitch into their own website. The current Twitch lags and can be very slow at times, but if Google bought it they would make the servers much faster and better.
The best move for Google, to ensure the Twitch user base continues using the service, is to keep the website separate from Youtube and change nothing except getting rid of the bugs. Google can still make money from the site and improve the service to integrate more data for Google to use.
