SLA Thumped by Immaculate Heart 17-2
On Wednesday, May 7, South Lancaster Academy’s baseball team played a game against Immaculate Heart’s baseball team at Fuller Field in Clinton. The SLA team lost the game 17-2, but nevertheless they played great. There were many positive highlights of the game.
SLA went up to bat first. Freshman Michael Olivera was the pitcher. During the first inning, SLA did not score any runs. When IH went up to bat, a few players got to walk. One of the highlights of the first inning was when #12 on IH’s team hit the ball and it looked like he was going to get to the first base but Gilbert Cartagena, a sophomore, caught the ball unexpectedly and #12 got out. The first inning ended with a score of 5-0.
Then the second inning started. Luis Reveron, a senior, got to walk to first base. Then sophomore Jared Allain hit the ball and ran all the way to second base. Then in the second half of the inning, sophomore Isaias Santana was the pitcher. Several people went up to bat, and IH scored. #22 on IH’s team hit the ball and tried to run all the way to second base but Nick Morin, also a sophomore, caught the ball and threw it to Kurtis Bakerlis, and Kurtis was able to get #22 out. In the third inning, Gilbert was up to bat first and he hit the ball but unfortunately someone tagged the base and he got out. Joel Morin(?) got to walk. Then Isaias hit the ball out of the park and ran to first while Joel ran to second. Then Arlan Gagnon, a junior, was up to bat and Joel scored a run. In the second half of the inning, #11 on IH got to walk. Then, #22 on their team hit the ball and #11 tried to run all the way to home plate but Nick tagged him and he got out. The third inning ended with a score of 13-1.
In the fourth inning, Nick hit the ball and ran to second base and then Luis followed, running to first. Then Jared went up to bat, and Nick scored a run, which boosted the score up to 13-2. Gilbert and Jordan both got to walk to first. Luis also got a run, making the score 13-3. In the second half of the inning, IH only scored one run making the score 14-3. In the fifth inning, nothing changed and nobody scored again, so the final score was 14-3.
Even though SLA’s team lost, they still played a great game. They put in a lot of effort. It was a very interesting game to watch and there were many positive moments. Everybody has to lose sometimes, and the team learned from this game and is hopeful for the rest of the games that lie ahead this season.
