SLA’s 2013 Christmas Concert
SLA musically acknowledged the new season on December 6 with their annual grade 7-12 Christmas concert directed by music teacher Lira Cady. The Concert featured performances by the high schools choir and sub choir Il Vocé who displayed their talents throughout the night. The concert opened with the number “I Wonder as a I Wander” by Steve Pilkington. The song, performed by Vocé, showcased the groups talents and featured soprano, Sharisse Rivas, as a soloist. Two more soloists, Soprano Ellen DeOliveira and Baritone Isaac Valera, were featured later on in the night during the SLA Choirs performance of “Christ was Born On Christmas Day” by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw.
The seventh and eighth grade classes also joined in on the music through their bell choir performances. The eighth grade performed “T’was In the Moon of Winter Time”, by Frances L. Callahan and the seventh grade performed “Ding, Dong, Merrily On High” by John A. Behnke. The eighth grade choir also displayed their vocal skill when they sang “I Will Carol In the Morning”, by Douglas Wagner, with Giana Muchiutti on the piano.
Throughout the evening the audience heard six lessons taken from the Bible. The lessons were read by students participating in the concert and brought to light the true meaning of the season through texts that explained the need for Jesus to come to earth as a human. During the offering call “Greensleeves” by Hart Morris was performed by Mikaela Hernandez on the oboe and Mas Y Ann Domicello on Violin.
The Congregation also got a chance to sing with the Choir and Vocé to the song “Silent Night” by David Schwoebel. The last song of the night “Angels from the Realms of Glory” by John A. Behnke brought everyone together as it was performed by the SLA Choir, 8th grade choir, 7th grade bells, and the congregation was invited to sing as well. It also featured the trumpet playing of Devin Crowley and David Cady.
Overall the night showcased the wonderful God-given talents of the Students at SLA and brought a blessing to all who attended. If you were at the concert Friday, comment below on how you enjoyed it.
