Teacher’s Spotlight: Pastor Jonathan Nino
This Thursday, May 7th, is Teacher’s Appreciation Day. To commemorate the event, Pioneer staff circled the school premises, doing a background interview on all academy teachers. Pastor Nino, our school chaplain and one of our religion teachers here at SLA, shared a piece of himself with us.
Q: How long have you been working here?
A: “This is my sixth year.”
Q: What inspired you to become a Chaplin?
A: “I like to work with youth. I enjoy the ability to teach the word of God, it’s like giving a daily mini bible study to everyone. I get the opportunity to evangelize with students everyday, and hopefully my words could help change someone’s life. The bible says to throw the seed and God will make great things happen.”
Q: What’s your favorite part about your job?
A: “When you guys have your wild moments while I’m teaching. I love seeing students come to the realization of the truth. I like to see students become leaders. I like to see that my teachings have stayed with you guys and you guys can use my example to lead out without my help.”
Q: What’s something you’ve learned about life while being here?
A: I’ve learned that God has a purpose for every little things and everyone here. God’s Will is always for something. I’ve learned to rely on his wisdom and not my own, and to rely on biblical truth.
Q: Do you have any future spiritual goals for SLA?
A: “I want to establish a strong religious life core, lead out in small groups and community outreach. I want us to go from a program based worship to a service. I want to see us interact more with each other, and to do work for God every where we go.”
A few students shared their appreciation for Pastor Nino and the person he has inspired them to become.
Sophomore Amber Sanchez, who’s worked closely with Pastor Nino due to being our highschool S.A. Pastor, shares: “Pastor Nino is an honorable, God-fearing man that upholds the Lord’s standards. He reflects Jesus in his teaching, preaching, and average conversation. He is fun to be around and just a great person in general.”
Junior Brandon Beneche, also a spiritual leader, says: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Pastor Nino these past two years. He’s taught me a lot and helped me grow as a spiritual leader and as a Christian. He’s a great guy and I really appreciate him and all that he’s done.”
From personal experience, I know God has worked amazingly through Pastor Nino to bring people to God. His sermons have brought me to tears several times, and I admire how unafraid he is to represent God in every way, everywhere he goes.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
