Dedication, determination, progress. Those three words are what describes the Varsity Crusaders team of 2013. Five years ago was the last time South Lancaster saw the courts of W.P.I. and participated in the final four in the MIAA basketball tournament, and you guys have brought us back. Even though we didn’t get past that point, we got to it. Sometimes it’s not always about where you end, but how you end it.
Winning isn’t always about the higher score, but the effort, the emotion, the perseverance, is what makes one a winner. I have watched you all play your hearts out in every game you’ve played, and those of you who are leaving, a piece of you will be left on SLA courts always. I have, along with the rest of Crusader fans, experienced the thrill and intensity of winning a close game, because we have won with you. You start together, you end together. And once a Crusader, always a Crusader. We have proudly hung the Crusader flag in our hearts, and we proudly wave it off to you. Michael Jordan once said, “talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” Crusaders, nothing stops here. You have the liberty to design your own paths, but always put God first.
Isaiah 30:21 says, “Whether you turn right or left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘this is the way, walk in it.” Your life is what you allow God to make it, and he will direct the rest of your ways as long as you let him do so. Let him be the coach, referee, and captain to your every game, and there will be no boundaries to how far you can go. Continue to stick together, and keep striving for what you want. You’ll be amazed at how far you can go. We are proud of all of you, and will never forget this year and all you’ve accomplished.
