Il Voce and Choir Concert Spreads Holiday Joy

On December 14, last Friday, South Lancaster Academy’s Il Voce, choir, and 7th and 8th graders took part in the annual Christmas concert entitled Lessons and Carols at the College Church. The 7th and 8th graders played classic Christmas songs on the bells like We Three Kings and Angels We Have Heard on High. Il Voce and Choir sang many songs like Once in Royal David’s City, Silent Night, and Epiphany just to name a few. Felicia Rice (Senior), Gerson Corominas (Senior), Isaac Valera (Junior), and Nathan Howes (Freshman) were all soloists. The concert received many positive comments from those who attended.

The choir entered the room singing Once in David’s Royal City, a song that many people in the congregation enjoyed. “I thought it was very creative and well done. I love how they walked in the room already singing. I felt like angels were singing to me,” commented Elena Shand, a Junior at SLA.

Pastor Rom, father of Sophomore and choir member Josiah Rom, thought the concert was “Creative and traditional at the same time. I enjoyed the variations in styles of music. I thought it was a blessing and they all performed very well.”

“I like the bells and I thought all of the music was beautiful. It sounded like magic!” exclaimed Elaine Zamo, who is Voce member Leo Zamo’s mom.

“The concert was great and hopefully everyone who attended was blessed. I like that the family and friends of the choir finally get to see all of the songs that we have been practicing for a long time,” said Freshman Michael Tanis, another choir member.

Pastor Heather Cook, associate pastor at the College Church, enthusiastically said, “It was great music and it puts you in the Christmas Spirit! The 7th and 8th grade bells were especially well done.”

Lessons and Carols was a success. There was beautiful music from both the singers and the people who played the bells. There was a mix of both traditional Christmas carols and hymns. The concert was creative, fun, and reminded many people of the happiness that comes from Christmas Spirit.
