Lady Crusaders Off to Best Start in Eight Seasons
While the Men’s Crusaders have been enjoying a successful 2011-12 basketball season, the girls are off to their best start in more than eight years. With a different coaching system and some new roster additions, the girls have won two of their first four games.
Their first victory came away from home against a well-coached AMSA (Advanced Math & Science Academy) team. The girls started off the game with a dominant first quarter and never looked back. After three more impressive quarters, the girls left with a victory. The girls’ next game proved to be a bit more challenging. They went up against a tall, disciplined St. Mary’s squad at home. Not intimidated by their height, the girls played lock-down defense all night and came away with a victory.
When asked about her team’s improvement, co-captain Elena Shand said, “I think that our teamwork, different system, and positive attitude have really helped. I think that if we keep thinking positive and keep working together, we’ll do really well.”
In addition to this, co-captain Esther Owusu said, “I think that our conditioning and new system has helped. I also think that we’re a lot closer. I think that if we continue to have good communication and avoid being complacent, we can be successful!”
Hopefully both Crusader teams will do well this season, but a special early congrats to the girls is in order!
