Browning/SLA’s First Christmas Concert a Success
On Friday, December 9, 7:00pm at the College Church, the Browning/SLA K – 6 grade Christmas concert was held. The school’s music teacher and event organizer Lira Cady did a fabulous job as usual; the concert was very well put together with impressive musical selections. The program itself was a nice length; not too short but not too lengthy. Mrs. Cady, who is known for her classy appearance and upbeat personality, again managed to portray these traits through her students’ performances.
The name of the event was “The Gift” and it truly was a gift to the families and friends of the performing students. Vice Principal Theresa Robidoux said the welcome and opening prayer, and Mrs. Cady spoke for the Benediction to end the program. Throughout the program, all the classes sang and were intermixed with the Fifth Grade Brass, Third Grade Recorders, Fourth Grade Recorders, Sixth Grade Chimes and Fifth Grade Band. “Away in a Manger” was performed by fifth graders Giana Muchiutti, who played the flute, and the Girl’s Trio with Mikeala Hernandez, Larissa Gloss and Serena Ferri-Lima.
When asked about what some people thought of the performance, former student Ricky Gifford said of his little brother, “I couldn’t help laughing at my little brother when he went up to perform and simply seemed to yawn throughout the song.” Ricky continued to enjoy watching his sibling perform throughout the program.
Eighth graders Jared Allain and Renatta Menezes both said “It was awesome!” and “I thought it was pretty good.” Whereas Aaron Comley said simply “It was boring.” Sometimes the truth hurts, I suppose.
When asked for their thoughts on the Christmas concert, parents were very positive in their feedback. Carolyn Gifford said “It was very nice” and Rita Allain said “I enjoyed it. It’s always nice to see the kids perform and I loved the fact that it was on a Friday night. I was able to relax more knowing I didn’t have to worry about getting my kids to school the next day or getting off to work.”
All in all, the Christmas concert was very well done and got a good feedback. Families and friends are eagerly awaiting for 7-12 grades Christmas concert being held at the College Church on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 7:00pm. Stay tuned to see how the junior high and high school do!
