How Will the Upcoming Senior Banquet Turn Out?
On Sunday, December 4, 2011, from 6pm to 10pm, the Senior class at South Lancaster Academy will be hosting a ‘Winter Paradise’ themed banquet. The banquet will take place in the
SLA gym where any who attend will be pleasantly surprised that the gym will be transformed. In order to attend students will have to purchase tickets that are $20 for SLA students and $23 for non-SLA students. Girls will also have to have their dresses approved beforehand.
When asked the reason for hosting the banquet Senior Tiya Quittmeyer said “To raise money for class trip” and Senior Brittany Madden added ” SA isn’t doing a winter banquet, so why not?”
The hosts for the event will be seniors Tiya Quittmeyer and Marlene Martinez-Alvarez. As hosts, the girls will be telling jokes, introducing what’s next and announcing winners of contests.
The food is being supplied by many of the seniors’ parents and is promised to taste delicious.
What of decorations, you might ask? “Decorations will be off the chart!” Senior Esther Owusu exclaimed.
Unfortunately, when students were asked about their thoughts and opinions about the upcoming Senior Banquet, many of the responses were negative.
Freshmen Lisa Gifford and Alena Bruso say “Too plain and simple” along with “lame because of the location.” Sophomore Lucas Raposo was no better saying just one word, “Stop…” Junior Deanna Howard says “I’m not paying $20 to go to the gym.”
Some students were positive though in their comments about the location of the banquet. Junior Helio Ferreira says “The location is…interesting but the idea is cool.” P.E. teacher Dustin Cook is encouraging, saying “If they do a good job, it is going to turn out very nice.” Sophomore Natalia Perez says “I think the seniors are very creative and they will make it fun and worth while to go. It won’t be so bad.”
The Senior Banquet is a very nice and refreshing idea. Hopefully the Seniors will prove most of the student body wrong and have truly a ‘Winter Paradise’ waiting for students on December 4.
