Winter Storm Memory

By Jennifer Sierra

Winter Storms
oh so forlorn
in the dark
without any helping hands
but many commands
to follow through on
yet many people
from the lowly
to the few lofty fellows
who all had to come
down to the same level
by a mass of weather
that has come and dumped
a bunch of bumps
of snow
helter skelter
leaving people to run for shelter
and take their elders
in and try not to begin the typical complainers
but even in the midst of it all
God will still call
with a voice soft yet clear
in a way that everyone  who wants will hear
the sweet words that will dry your tears
and can calm your fears as he draws you near
in the midst of the storm
the storm that can have the power to help or hinder
to keep or forsake those who refuse to cope
but for all the words spoke
many people still go broke
when the storms come and denote
their lack or preparation
or dedication
to what is important
like making sure you have flashlights
or nightlights that will last a fortnight
or food that will not spoil in one night
but then again with all that there is that cannot be done
leaves many twiddling their thumbs
or for little one running around playing
and the older one sitting around praying
so next time when things go dark
think about all the pleasant snow that you have the privilege to blow
and all the many people you can show what can grow
in your refrigerator
but no matter how many storms come
know that you can always run
to the one who’s arms are big enough for all
and ready pick you up when you fall…on ice
enjoy the season and be a reason
for all to smile
in the winter mix of it all.
