No Fear

By Thoma Beneche

Be Strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, he is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you no forsake you.( Deuteronomy 31: 6)

Once there was this 6 year old boy who, one night, watched the movie The Wolfman on Halloween. When the Boy went up to his room to sleep, he couldn’t, and kept imagining the wolfman coming out of his closet and attacking him. The boy screamed for his father, who immediately rushed to his sons’ rooms. The boy kept on telling his father that the wolfman was coming to get him. The father reassured the boy that there is no wolfman and told him that if he was still scared he could sleep in his room if he wanted to. As soon as the boy went to his father’s room he immediately felt safe, knowing that his father was here to protect him. That night he slept like a rock.

The world can be a scary place, especially to those who don’t know the dangers it holds, or overestimate themselves, but as soon as the big world comes down on you you run away in fear.

When King Saul and his army refused to fight the giant Goliath, only one person even considered it; a young boy named David. David was the youngest of his brothers, and the armor and sword that Saul provided for him were too big and heavy for him to use. To Saul’s shock David refused the armor and sword, instead deciding to use his sling. Saul replied,”You have to take something else.”

David Replied ,”My faith in the Lord is enough.” The rest of the story is known.  David defeats the giant with only his sling, and with God behind him. When we are afraid when the world comes knocking at your door, think about this, God can hold the whole world in his hands. God is bigger than the world, so why should we be afraid when the Big Guy has our back?
