So Far So Good For SLA Boys Soccer
By: Ethan Comley
So far so good. That’s the thinking behind the 3-0 start to the season the SLA boys soccer team has so far. While the team has a lot to work on, they have managed to win their first three games by a total margin of 16-4.
Their coach, Ricky DeOliveira admits he has not been impressed overall with the teams performance. He thinks that if they don’t work harder and play better quickly, then they will get slaughtered in the playoffs. They could clinch a playoff spot with a win on next Tuesday against Ayer.
The Crusaders latest win was Tuesday against these same Ayer Panthers, beating them by a score of 5-2. At the end of the first half, they were only winning 2-1, their coaching pushing them for a better performance in the second half. The players listened and scored three more goals to finish the game. This loss angered the Panther players, and with the rematch on Thursday, Ayer will surely want revenge.
Before their showdown with Ayer, the Crusaders next game is Wednesday against St. Peter-Marian Jr/Sr High School. This game was scheduled late and with no preparation, should be a good one. St. Peter-Marian’s record is 4-4, while the Crusaders are 3-0.
Overall, even with a winning record, the Crusaders still have a lot of work to do. They will be tested in future game as they play Cardinal Spellman, who have a record of 9-0. The rest of this season will be full of more excitement than it has already shown.
